Another meeting against Havant, who we knew after last time had a strong team. The first quarter was tough, letting in 2 goals, but some hard work from the team and some great saves by James Kay in goal meant in the break the mood was still positive and thoughts were of "we can do this". The 2nd quarter went in similar vein, meaning at half time Fareham were 0-5 down.
Nigel gave the boys some encouragement and advice on forcing those short corners, and general tactics against Havant, and the team started to flow and win the ball. 4 mins later a short corner, converted by Charlie. Then a penalty flick was awarded, and after a short pause to allow the umpires to settle a differing point of view on the issue.... Charlie popped the ball in top left. Momentum had been regained and Fareham won that quarter 2-1.
The 4th quarter was tight, but the renew'd game plan still worked, another short corner conversion for Charlie, and a nice goal by Elvyn. 4th quarter ended even 2-2.
So in a similar fashion to the previous meeting against Havant, Fareham didn't get going until the 2nd half, which against a strong team was unfortunately too much to pull back.
