Heather Batten and Vicky Field shared the goals between them as the Ladies' 1s bounced back from last week's defeat with a convincing 4-0 home victory over Aldershot & Farnham without having to move into top gear.
Fareham dictated the play for most of the first half but it took 20 minutes to make the initial breakthrough as Heather struck from a penalty corner with a shot that was too hot for the keeper to deal with. She followed this up nine minutes later with a quick turn and finish to double the advantage. Vicky missed the previous two games but she didn't have too long to wait before getting back on the scoresheet two minutes before half-time. Lydia Rowswell fired a pass into the 'D' and Vicky's nicely controlled deflection looped over the keeper to make it 3-0 at half-time.
As the rain returned in the second half the visitors came more into the game and had chances to score but some determined defending, in particular from Jilly Tovey in goal, preserved the clean sheet. Fareham's final goal, and the best of the game, came in the 58th minute. A quick pass out of defence by Georgia Collins was picked up by Heidi Podd who crossed half-way before sending a well-weighted pass out to Heather on the left wing. Heather in turn found Hannah Oldham with a quick diagonal pass. Moving into the 'D', Hannah outran a couple of defenders before sending an inviting pass across goal for Vicky to finish bravely at the far post, beating the keeper to the ball and tucking it just inside the post.
The focus is now on next Saturday's important match at Southampton (12.00) although it is no longer a clash of the top two teams. Havant have moved into second place, two points behind Fareham whilst Southampton now trail the leaders by three points in third place.
