Due today's cancellations and postponements, maintaining the pride of the club fell to the U12 girls in their game against Alton. In their previous meeting, Alton had the upper hand due to a below strength Fareham team resulting in a 6-1 loss. With their recent progress and results, the Fareham girls were keen to reverse the result.
As with many of their matches, Fareham started slowly to gauge the abilities of the opponents. The first five minutes of the match were evens with the majority of the play in the middle of the pitch with few forays into either D. After the initial few minutes, Fareham started to apply pressure. The first goal came from Izzy neatly beating the Alton keeper. The team, sensing Alton weakness, started to press high. Grace, unchallenged during a free hit, dribbled into the Alton D and scored with a great hit around the Alton keeper.
After the break, Fareham continued their attacking ways. Winning a short corner, Grace scored with another great hit. Shortly after, Alton started to find their passes and shortly after scored a goal. Fareham responded well and shortly after Izzy scored again to make it 4-1.
In the last period, Alton really found their stride and were making regular shots on goal or winning short corners. The Fareham defence were working overtime and kept the final score to 4-2, the final Alton goal an excellently worked goal around keeper Lauren.
The result with Salisbury's victory over Bournemouth means that Fareham will probably take second place in the league.
Well played to all the girls. Thanks to Camilla for managing, Dave and Sam for umpiring and all the spectators for their support
