U12s at the Hampshire 7s tournament

What a day at the Hampshire 7s!

With only six men, the team were faultless. With one draw and three wins in our pool games, we finished second only by goal difference. Facing Portsmouth in our play off, we settled with a solid 3-0 win and then faced Winchester in the semis. Losing 1-0 was tough yet we knew that we were unlucky not to make the final. A final match for 3rd/4th was victorious v Fleet and was well deserved.

Final reflection - if this was a valued-added competition, we certainly came through as champions. Only six men, a man down, no subs, back to back games - the troops were outstanding. The overall winners were Trojans, a team who we beat last week 6-2.......

Today's squad: Ben O'Nion, Ethan Barratt, Charlie Gray, Josh Long, James Foot, Will Gardner

Finally, a huge 'thank you' to Jason for travelling up and umpiring throughout the day.

U12s girls team visit from Oosterbeek

A fantastic 2 days spent with the under 12 girls team from Oosterbeek mixed hockey club, Holland.

Fareham fielded a mixed aged team combining some of our under 12 and under 14 girls.

To encourage the girls to bond and get to know each  the first match  was a mix up game with girls from each team playing together. It was a close fought match with  the "Sparkles"  team winning  4-2 against the "Frankensteins" After the game  all the girls enjoyed a post match meal, followed by some Halloween madness, featuring hair chalk, nail varnish and face paints.

The following morning  the Dutch girls took the opportunity to get some pre match training in at HMS Collingwood for the afternoon match Holland v England. There were many references made to the Olympic 2016  iconic win for England.

The teams lined up and sang their National Anthems. Fareham had consistent pressure, good passing and hard running which undid a  resolute Dutch defence, whilst the balance of the game was Fareham's favour the hard work from the Dutch team meant that nothing could be taken for granted and some of their individual performances were notable. However England won 3-1.

Following a convincing win from Fareham both teams elected to take part in a whole team penalty shoot out using the new format from the 23. This resulted in a great spectacle and ended with a 5-5 draw with  some special performances including the goal keepers from both sides.

Both teams finished off the tour with a Halloween themed social evening.

Everyone who experienced the tour is hopeful that a reciprocal visit can be planned for next year to see who can be the cup holder in 2017.

The efforts of both teams were  recognised with a presentation of medals which were generously be provided by both clubs.

U14s v. Push Hockey Club, Breda, Holland

On Sunday 23rd October our u14 squad hosted a touring side from Push Hockey Club in Breda, Holland. It was a tight match with the ball going end to end throughout. Fareham scored from a penalty corner in the latter parts of the second half, with Sam Ratliffe steering a wide shot into the corner of the goal.

Final score: Fareham 1 - 0 Push

Fareham Hockey Club hosts another successful junior tournament…

On a glorious sunny day, 12 local hockey Clubs joined Fareham for an end of season tournament.

Approximately 100 keen and energetic players, accompanied by equally enthusiastic parents, were hosted at Fareham’s purpose built Hockey Club (beside Henry Cort School). It was a fun day for all the children, with some competitive hockey thrown in. Playing on quarter pitches, the organisation was precision timed.

Appropriate rules for this age group were strictly adhered to by Fareham’s group of young Umpires, led by Murray Watson. Music was mostly “old school” thanks to Rob Fryer, who also compered the proceedings throughout. Freshly cooked food was once again provided by Chris Davey and Lee Tagg. The Club bar was open all day for refreshments.

A highlight of the day, according to the children. was a team Dance-In, where all the players danced against each other in their respective teams. Ultimately, the winning entrants (Romsey) were awarded sweets by master of ceremonies Nigel Cook.

After a suitably timed lunch break, the Finals were played for the coveted Fareham Challenge Trophy - Bournemouth were the overall winners, with Petersfield worthy runners up and Romsey third.

Accolades received by Fareham Hockey Club include…

Hi Nigel, I just wanted to let you know what a wonderful tournament you arranged today. How nice for the kids that there was something to play for, even if we (Romsey) were not the winners in the end. Sebastian, Olivia and I had a really fun day and hope you will be running it again next year.
